Support for TCSD Use Permit Application

We Need Your Support to Continue TCSD Events

TCSD has recently submitted two use permit applications to the County of Marin for 203 Marin Ave (Tam Valley Community Center) and 305 Bell Lane (TCSD main office and corporation yard) to allow TCSD to continue to provide services and community events for its residents.

Specifically, the use permit application for 203 Marin Ave. will allow TCSD to continue to have bands (amplified outdoor music) at Creekside Fridays, Oktoberfest, and Earth Day events at the Tam Valley Community Center. The use permit application for 305 Bell Lane will allow TCSD to continue to offer Debris Day twice a year as well as clarify what constitutes solid waste vehicle operations.

The applications are in response to threatened litigation against TCSD by a neighboring resident and a code enforcement action triggered by a resident’s anonymous complaint. By e-signing the letter below, we will be able to demonstrate community support for continuing TCSD’s events and operations at our current location. We will submit the support letters to the County of Marin prior to the Tamalpais Design Review Board (TDRB) review of the use permit applications. The TDRB is scheduled to consider the use permit applications at its March 5th meeting at 7:00pm in the Tam Valley Community Center. In addition to signing the letter of support, we encourage residents to attend the meeting in support of the TCSD applications.

RE: TCSD USE PERMIT APPLICATIONS FOR 203 MARIN AND 305 BELL LANE- MARCH 5, 2025 MEETING

Dear Members of the Design Review Board:

This letter is in support of  the use permit applications for the Tamalpais Community Services District (TCSD).  The approval of the use permit applications for 203 Marin Ave (Tam Valley Community Center) and 305 Bell Lane (TCSD main office and corporation yard) will allow TCSD to continue to provide services and community events for its residents. Specifically, the use permit application for 203 Marin Ave. will allow TCSD to continue to have bands (amplified outdoor music) at Creekside Fridays, Oktoberfest, and Earth Day events at the Tam Valley Community Center. The Creekside and Earth Day events are free and attended by hundreds of residents. While Oktoberfest does charge an entry fee, hundreds of Tam Valley residents, (both adults and children) typically attend the event.

The use permit application for 305 Bell Lane will allow TCSD to continue to offer Debris Day twice a year. TCSD has been offering this cherished event for over 20 years. Debris Day is free to TCSD residents. On average, over 200 residents drop off extra refuse, scrap metal, and/or shredding at Debris Day. The use permit application also clarifies that TCSD is a refuse hauler with associated operations, but no on-site refuse collections.

From a policy perspective, it is unfortunate that one or two individuals would be able to dictate public policy for a special district representing over 7,500 residents. We urge you to recommend approval of the use permit applications to allow TCSD to continue providing services and community events to its residents.

Sincerely,
